Never. alice products contain functional mushrooms like Lions Mane, Cordyceps, Reishi, and Tremella. Functional mushrooms are fully legal everywhere in the world, and are an entirely different category of mushrooms to those that can create a psychedelic experience. So no matter how much alice chocolate you consume, you won’t trip or risk failing a drug test. 

For two simple reasons: taste and efficacy. 

We have a simple motto at alice: indulge, don’t endure. We hated spending so much money on functional mushrooms in forms that didn’t taste good and were an effort to consume — and without consistent daily use, we didn’t feel their effects either. So we set out to create a wellness routine that was actually joyful, not one we felt like we had to force down. Every bite of alice is delicious which makes it a treat to eat every day.

Taking a supplement in food form also works better…about 10 times better. Our bodies were designed to absorb nutrients from food, not pills. During the process of eating, your saliva and digestive system breaks down the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to put them to work – which doesn’t happen with a pill. In food form, nutrients are up to 10 times more bioavailable than they are from pills which means that, with alice, you are getting a potent, readily digestible supplement that your body can actually absorb!

We have a ‘now and later’ approach to formulation. The long term benefits come from our functional mushrooms, which are felt over time — not instantly. When incorporated into a daily routine, the mushrooms’ nutrients compound in your body and become more effective with daily use.

Yes! Our chocolates are meant to be taken daily (just like a supplement!) for 2-3 months to give the functional mushrooms time to build up in your system. When incorporated into a daily routine, the mushrooms’ nutrients compound in your body and become more effective (and noticeable) with sustained use.

No need to refrigerate alice! Your order may have arrived with ice packs if it was shipped during warm weather, but that is just to prevent it from melting in transit. The best way to store alice (and all dark chocolate in general) is at room temperature and out of direct sunlight.

The functional mushrooms work over time, not instantly. When enjoyed daily for 2-3 months, the nutrients compound in your body and begin to make subtle yet powerful changes.  Each mushroom is selected for its unique role in supporting the body and mind:

Lion’s Mane (Brainstorm) contains naturally occurring compounds that are small enough to cross the blood–brain barrier and are associated with supporting Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), which plays a role in memory, cognition, neuroplasticity, and overall brain health.

Reishi (Nightcap + Zen-X) is rich in triterpenes traditionally associated with supporting the parasympathetic nervous system, helping promote relaxation, stress balance, and restful sleep.

Cordyceps (Party Trick, Happy Ending + Brainstorm) has a long history of use for supporting energy and endurance and contains adenosine-related compounds associated with oxygen utilization, mental stamina, and nervous system support.

Tremella (Zen-x) provides gentle adaptogenic support while nourishing the body at a cellular level.

To complement these long-term benefits—and because we appreciate a little instant gratification—we also formulated our chocolates with fast-acting nootropics and herbal ingredients designed to be felt more immediately, often within ~45 minutes of enjoying a piece.

The result is an indulgent daily ritual that’s good for you and only gets better with time!

We use 100% legal, functional mushrooms — this means that none of our products contain psilocybin (the compound that makes certain mushrooms psychedelic).

Our mushrooms are regulated the same way as mushrooms you'd buy at the grocery store, so you can take them anywhere in the world with you and they can be treated like any other food item when going through airport security :)

Consuming alcohol while alice is in your system won’t affect its efficacy. However, everyone’s body is different, so it’s always a good idea to pay attention to how you’re feeling and take it slow. As always, ask your doctor if you’re unsure!

There's no minimum age requirement for consuming alice products, but they were designed for adults and have not been extensively tested with children or teenagers. If you are concerned about a child taking alice, we always recommend talking to a pediatrician first!

We don’t have access to conclusive studies performed with people who may have contraindications, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or who have certain chronic health conditions, to be able to make any claims about the safety of functional mushrooms in those circumstances. Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your health and wellness routine if you have chronic health issues or if you are pregnant.

• Brainstorm: 1 square suits most. Those looking for a stronger, more prolonged sensation may enjoy a double dose! With daily use, Brainstorm supports neural connections in your brain for better focus over time. 
  
  Each square of Brainstorm contains 66mg of natural caffeine, which is equivalent to ⅔ cup of coffee. It all depends on your tolerance to caffeine and figuring out what works for you. If you'd like to take additional squares of Brainstorm, we just advise that you keep track of your overall caffeine intake for the day. For reference, the FDA recommends not exceeding 400mg per day.

• Nightcap: eat 1-2 squares of Nightcap up to an hour before bedtime to support sleep and relaxation. With nightly use, Nightcap will help to foster healthy sleep patterns and deeper sleep.

• Happy Ending: we recommend taking 1 square of Happy Ending daily for sexual wellness and 2 (or more 🌶) if you're looking to get in the mood 😍 
  
  Did you know: Happy Ending isn't only for sexual arousal and intimacy! We actually designed it to be a daily supplement to promote hormonal balance and overall sexual wellness.

• Party Trick: you can take up to 4 squares a night (or day, depending on how you like to party!) — we recommend starting with 1 square to start, then keep enjoying as the night progresses. You can expect effects to wear off about an hour after your last dose. Enjoy daily for longterm lifts to confidence, mood, and sociability.

• Zen-X: enjoy 1-2 squares any time you need to recenter or calm your nerves. With daily use, Zen-X will continue to help stabilize your cortisol levels, ease physical tension, and improve your mood over time.

We take mushroom sourcing very seriously. All of our mushrooms are grown-to-order by a network of woman-owned farms, are USDA Certified Organic, and only use extracts from the fruiting body of the mushroom (the most nutrient-dense part). 

Each mushroom is grown in the best climate for its health and on its most natural substrate to ensure the highest concentration of nutrients! Lion's Mane is grown on certified organic oak and maple logs, Cordyceps is grown on certified organic brown rice, Reishi is grown on certified organic dunwood logs, and Tremella is grown on certified organic oak hardwoods. All mushrooms are hand-harvested and dried in the sun to absorb vitamin D!

Our dark chocolate composition is organic semi-sweet 72% cacao chocolate (chocolate liquor processed with potassium carbonate, cane sugar, cocoa butter, sunflower lecithin, vanilla), coconut oil, and cocoa butter. 

*Party Trick specifically contains additional ingredients for the popping rock candy and candy coating, as follows: Carbonated popping rocks (cane sugar, lactose [milk], corn syrup solids, cocoa butter, and powdered sugar (non-gmo).

Brainstorm contains 66mg of natural caffeine from the Guarana berry, which is equivalent to ⅔ cup of coffee.

Party Trick contains less than 1mg of caffeine per square (that's less than a single sip of green tea!) through the addition of Guayusa, a naturally caffeinated leaf.

Happy Ending, Nightcap, and Zen-X are all caffeine-free!

None of our products contain peanuts or tree nuts as ingredients, but our chocolate is processed on shared equipment and may contain peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, or soy. 

For those with allergies, please exercise caution. 

Yes! All of our chocolates are OU-D kosher certified

Brainstorm, Nightcap, Happy Ending, and Zen-X are dairy-free and vegan!

Please note that Party Trick specifically contains traces of milk chocolate within the popping rock candy coating and is NOT dairy-free/vegan like our other products.

Our chocolates do not have any gluten-containing ingredients. 

While our warehouse is not certified gluten free, we are the only product that runs on our machine and it is cleaned thoroughly between each use. 

If you are concerned about a serious celiac reaction from cross contamination, we unfortunately cannot make any guarantees. Please exercise caution if you have a known gluten allergy.

All of our chocolate products are made from fairly traded organic dark chocolate and we exclusively use organic, fruiting body mushrooms that are hand-harvested when their medicinal compounds are at peak concentration.

We currently ship to all 50 U.S. states (yes! Including Hawaii & Alaska) year-round and Canada October-May.

SavedBy is a service that assures your order against loss, theft, delivery/address issues, and damage (including melting in warm months!). If you have any issues with your order and you purchased SavedBy at checkout, you’re 100% covered with a refund or replacement.

We fulfill Monday-Friday and aim to pack orders within 24 hours of receiving them.

• For domestic orders, you should receive your alice 3-6 business days from the moment you place it!
• International orders currently take 11-14 days for delivery.

We monitor weather across the country to make sure we're packing our chocolates effectively in warm regions throughout the year.

When it’s hot outside, we ship with insulated boxes and add ice packs. It’s a high cost on our side, but our top priority is making sure our customer’s orders arrive in great condition. If for some reason your order arrives with the chocolates melted, just contact us at [email protected] and we'll make sure you're taken care of :)

Easy! To start, log in to your alice account (a one-time link will be automatically sent to the same email you used at checkout!). Once you're in, select “My Account” on the bottom of the right-hand menu. Then, select “Manage Subscriptions” under your Order History and the rest is up to you!

Of course! If you need to cancel your subscription, log in to your alice account and select “Manage Subscriptions” under “My Account". Scroll to the very bottom of the page and you'll find an option to cancel. You can also skip, pause, or set the next date of your subscription instead of cancelling. This way you won't lose your current discount or any rewards you've accrued!

*However, if a recurring order has been billed before your subscription is paused, skipped, or canceled, your order likely can't be stopped.You'll need to reach out to support asap to see if your order can be cancelled.*

Due to the perishable nature of our products and for food safety reasons, we are unable to accept returns. If you have an issue with your order, just email us at [email protected] for help!

Please do not return products — you will not be eligible for a refund if you refuse/return your order to us. Email us and we will make sure you’re taken care of!

If alice isn't a fit for you, you can request a refund for any of our chocolate products within 30 days of your first purchase (SavedBy Shipping Assurance is non-refundable). Due to our strict quality and safety protocols, we can’t resell any products that have left our warehouse. This means we can’t accept returns or exchanges of any chocolate products, even if they are unopened. 

Exclusions:

• Initiating a credit card chargeback will void your right to a refund. No orders associated with a chargeback will be refunded.
• Only the first order placed by a customer is eligible for a refund. Additional orders are not eligible.
• Packages that are refused upon delivery or marked as "Return to Sender" are not eligible for a refund.

We have a very short window to perform cancellations or edit your order, so it is possible that we won’t catch your order in time.

All ingredients undergo routine third-party testing with independent laboratories to screen for contaminants, heavy metals and ensure quality and safety. This ongoing testing process supports accuracy, transparency, and trust in our formulations. 

Both raw ingredients and finished products are tested as part of our safety and quality process.

Alice completes full substantiation reports, including comprehensive scientific dossiers, for our products to support efficacy and claims. These dossiers compile relevant clinical research, ingredient-level studies, and formulation rationale.

Formulations are created through a collaborative process with a multidisciplinary team of formulators, scientists, chocolatiers, and our Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Jen Ashton. Each blend is thoughtfully developed using scientific research and formulation expertise while prioritizing taste, experience, and quality.
